This class will focus on focused revision at the level of language. It's not about plot or form or structure, but rather about the constituent elements that make up sentences or lines. Students will be offered tactics to employ in the service of sharpening their prose or poems, in strengthening their syntax, and in surprising their readers (and themselves!) There will be resources shared in class for students to take home; nothing will be sent in advance. Students will be asked to bring a short piece of writing that they would like to revise, e.g., 500 words of prose or 1 poem (20 lines or fewer).
